Abstract

Hypertension is a public health problem and a term used to describe HBP. It is a condition that occurs as a result of repeatedly elevated blood pressure exceeding 140 over 90 mmHg whereby a systolic pressure above 140 with a diastolic pressure above 90 (American Heart Association.2009). The cause of hypertension is not yet known unless it is unless is secondary high blood pressure. However, there are many underlying factors associated with the occurrence. These factors are modifiable as obesity, increase salt intake, physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle and substances abuse , and non-modifiable as age, family history, gender and race (Aubert et al., 2010)
Hypertension is one of the most common worldwide diseases affecting adult population. Because of the associated morbidity and mortality and the cost to society, healthcare professionals must not only identify and treat patients with hypertension but also promote a healthy lifestyle and preventive strategies to decrease the prevalence of hypertension in the general population (Onwukwe & Omole, 2012).
This study was conducted in order to assess the effect of application of Pender’s Health Promotion Model on management of hypertension among adults in rural area.
