The age of the studied women ranged from 20-45 with a mean of33 years.
The clients were all offered a structured questionnaire and the answered received orally were recorded and interpreted, as following:
The clients were distributed according to menstrual history before using the current methods regarding Regularityofmenses, duration, and amount.
Among the two groups, 91.1% of clients had a positive history of using previous family planning method.
Among the Implanon group 86.9% used contraceptives before, of which 19% had used Implanon before.
In the IUD group 93.2% had positive contraception history, of which 40.2% had used IUD before.
History of the initial visit on which the current method was chosen is taken, we specially examined: preinsertion counseling, duration of use, early side effects within 1 week of insertion, and if an informed decision was taken by the client herself vs. by the husband or provider.
We found that only 46.5% did receive proper counseling, early complications were reasonably more common in IUD group vs. Implanon. Sadly, the provider of the service had the largest share in decision taking on behalf of the clients.
Then we asked about the reason behind discontinuation of the method, the answers were one of 3 categories: desire to get pregnancy, end of the duration of the method, and occurrence of side effects.
group A: the most common complications were menstrual irregularity 63.7%,inter menstrual bleeding 20.4%, weight gain 8%, menorrhagia4.4% and3.5% pMS.
group B: the most common complications were menorrhagia 46.8%, menstrual irregularity 34.2%, inter menstrual bleeding 13.9% and offensive vaginal discharge 5.1%.
