Abstract Many treatment modalities have been studied to improve outcome in patients with traumatic brain injury and post cardiac arrest, from those modalities therapeutic hypothermia. Key role of therapeutic hypothermia in all forms of brain injury in many patients either in trauma or post arrest is to prevent ischemia and cellular damage. Study results: show that with applying therapeutic hypothermia as soon as possible in post cardiac arrest or traumatic brain injury at least in 72 hours provide a useful neuroprotective effect and decrease mortality rate. Conclusion: The effect of hypothermia on the neurological outcome would seem to be most beneficial when the treatment is initiated as early as possible after restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and maintained for 12-24 h. |
