Abstract

Pancreatic neoplasm can arise from both exocrine and endocrine parts of the pancreas. Most pancreatic neoplasms are infiltrating ductal adenocarcinomas. The careful application of morphologic criteria is needed to differentiate between the various types of malignancies The CT has improved the ability to determine precise pancreatic anatomy. With adequate intravenous contrast enhancement techniques, the vessels around the pancreas will be shown in the majority of the patients. It is very important to stage the pancreatic cancer correctly as the consequences of this staging are enormous. Over staging of the tumor will lead to under treatment if a surgery is not performed in a patient with a potentially resectable tumor. Under staging will lead to an unnecessary surgery with all the associated risks.
