Abstract

Backgound:Infertility affects about 10-15% of reproductive age couples. The presence of patent fallopian tubes, normal ovulation, and normal sperm parameters may still be associated with subfertility because of distortion of the uterine cavity or the presence of intraperitoneal endometriosis.
Aims: The aim of this study is to evaluate the expression of CD56 and CD16 uterine natural killer cells in the endometrium of women with infertility associated with endometriosis.
Methodlogy: A case control study.
Settings: This study was conducted at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital.
Population: One hundred thirty patients were recruited from the infertility and general gynecology outpatient clinics of Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital. After the approval of research ethics committee, an informed written consent was obtained from all participants.
Conclusion: Our study found that expression of CD56dim /CD16+ uNK cells population in endomtreotic patients was high in comparison to those without endometriosis. Explaining the possible link between its inflammatory action and pathogenesis of endometriosis associated infertility.
Recommendation: Higher number of patient should be included to confirm our study findings and further analysis of possible link of percentage of expression of uNKs and endometriosis as well as infertility.
Possible drugs that can reduce uNk cells should be studied aiming at improving the treatment options for patients with endometrioses associated infertility.
