Abstract

The Study was done to review the clinical presentation and natural history of congenital vascular trachea-bronchial compression in children in Mansura University children hospital. Also, to review the current preoperative management and possible complications among those patients.Seventy-two patients with congenital vascular trachea bronchial compression were attained MUCH from October 2004 to April 2015. Patient’s ages were ranged from one month to fifty-seven months; male patients were about 63% and female patients were about 38%.It was concluded that Vascular ring is not a rare congenital cardiovascular anomaly however high index of suspicion is needed for diagnosis
Vascular rings were classified to four main groups; the commonest variant is the double aortic arch, right aortic arch + Aberrant left subclavian, pulmonary artery sling and the least common type is aberrant innominate artery.Double aortic arch (DAA) was sub-typed in to DAA with dominant right arch found in 27 cases (52.9%), DAA with co dominant found in 15 cases (29.4%) and DAA with dominant left arch found in 9 cases (17.7%).The most common presenting symptoms were stridor, cough and bronchial asthma like symptoms, and feeding problems .Chest x-ray was used with all cases. Multi detector computered tomography becomes the main and most efficient method for diagnosis of vascular rings by its all types. Surgical intervention was carried out for all cases which considered the only effective treatment plan.
