Abstract
In this study ,eight completely edentulous patients were selected to compare the effect of using mini implant retained overdenture and mini implant supported overdenture on the implant supporting structures.
Four mini implants were surgically inserted in the mandible of each patient in the interformina area then patiens were divided into two groups according to the way that the denture engages the implants.group I patients received implant supported mandibular overdenture while group II patients received implant retained mandibular overdenture where O ring attachment with its metal housing was placed over the implant.
The marginal bone height loss was evaluated after three, six, nine and twelve months from mini implant loading using x-ray film sensor attached to computer and a special soft ware of Digora (version 1.51 for windows) following the long cone parallel technique. Pocket depth was measured during the follow up period using periodontal probe.
from the result obtained from this study , mini implant retained overdenture showed less marginal bone height loss and less increase in pocket depth than the mini implant supported overdenture.
