Abstract O ur study is evaluating the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension in patients with ESRD on chronic HD. Demographic, clinical and laboratory findings had been evaluated in both patients with or without PHT. The study included 40 patients on regular haemodialysis due to different causes of ESRD, in aim to assess the associations and the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension among them. In this study, taking full history, physical examination stressing on etiology of chronic kidney disease, type of vascular access and local cardiac examination had been achieved. Also routine laboratory investigations including kidney function tests (KFTS), serum electrolytes (calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium) had been done, with using echocardiography for assessment of left ventricular function (EF% or ejection fraction) and pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP). And exclusion criteria were: • Rheumatic heart disease. • Cardiomyopathies. • Primary pulmonary hypertension. The present study showed statistically significant higher prevalence of pulmonary hypertension in patients with ESRD on regular HD via AVF, as from the evaluated 40 patients; 13 patients found to have PHT (P value was 0.027). Similar to the findings of numerous clinical trials, our study revealed higher prevalence of pulmonary hypertension between patients on regular haemodialysis via arterio-venous fistula. |
