Abstract

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a malignant disorder of lymphoid progenitor cells that proliferate and replace the normal hematopoietic cells of the bone marrow. These lymphoblasts replace the normal bone marrow elements resulting in a marked decrease in the production of normal blood cells. The FAB classification is still widely used in clinical setting that groups ALL into 3 subgroups (FAB L1,L2,L3) based on it’s degree of differentiation and morphology. Moreover, (WHO) classification for ALL added the genetic, immunophenotypic, biological and clinical features to the morphological findings. Immunophenotyping has become an important diagnostic tool in establishing the diagnosis and classification of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In ALL, the most common cytogenetic abnormality is the Philadelphia chromosome or (BCR-ABL1) fusion gene. It is the result of a t(9;22)(q34;q11) translocation and is associated with bad prognosis .CD25 is a type I transmembrane protein presents on activated T cells, activated B cells, some thymocytes encoded by IL2RA Gene located on chromosome 10 and contains three immunoglobulin domains, thus belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. The aim of this work is to find out the expression of alpha chain of interleukin-2 receptor (CD25) in pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
