Abstract SUMMARY Title: Studies on the catalytic properties of some transition metal complexes. The thesis comprises of five chapters: Chapter 1 includes the introduction and a literature survey on the azo compounds and their complexes. Chapter 2 concerned with the experimental work. The following ligands (HL n ) were prepared: HL HL HL HL 1 2 3 4 = 5-Chloro-3-hydroxy-4-(4-methoxyphenylediazenyl)pyridine-2(1H)-one. = 5-Chloro-3-hydroxy-4-(4-methylphenyldiazenyl)pyridine-2(1H)-one. = 5-Chloro-3-hydroxy-4-(phenyldiazenyl)pyridine-2(1H)-one. = 5-Chloro-3-hydroxy-4-(4-chlorophenyldiazenyl)pyridine-2(1H)-one. HL5 = 5-Chloro-3-hydroxy-4-(4-nitrophenyldiazenyl)pyridine-2(1H)-one. Ru(III) complexes were prepared from the reaction of these ligands (HL n [Ru(L ) with [RuCl n ) 2 (AsPh 3 ) 2 3 ]Cl. The formed complexes are trans- The synthesized ligands and complexes were investigated by elemental analysis (C, H and N), molar conductivity measurements, magnetic measurements, spectral studies (IR, electronic, and ac conductivities. 1 H NMR), thermal studies (TGA) Chapter 3 includes the results and discussion. The results showed that the characterization of Ru(III) complexes of the type trans-[Ru(L n ) 2 (AsPh 3 ) 2 ]Cl |
