Abstract Introduction Patient safety is a worldwide public health problem. Patient safety is the absence of preventable harm to a patient during the process of healthcare. Improving the safety of healthcare delivery saves lives, helps to avoid unnecessary complications and increases the confidence that receiving medical care actually makes patients better. Nurses are in a key position to improve patient safety, not just through their individual patient care actions as clinicians, but by exercising their leverage as much desired employees in the labor marketplace. Hip replacement is one of the most successful orthopedic procedures performed today. This is considered a successful, safe and cost effective medical intervention to relieve pain, restore function and improve quality of life. Nurses play an important role in managing the patients undergoing hip replacement (HR) through assessing, understanding needs and providing meaningful nursing care. Aim of the study The aim of the current study was to assess safe nursing practices applied for patients post hip joint replacement. Material and methods This study was conducted on all available nurses (52) at the inpatient orthopedic units of El-Hadara Orthopedic and Traumatology University Hospital. The studied nurses were included according to level of education into (2) technical and (50) diploma nurses. One tool was used for data collection in this study (Safe nursing practices applied for patients post hip joint replacement observational checklist) in addition to nurses’ socio demographic data sheet. |
