Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of using a Suggested Multiple Intelligences-Based Program in Improving Primary Sixth Graders’ Vocabulary Acquisition and Use, Reading Comprehension Skills and Motivation. One hundred pupils (females) were randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group (50 pupils each). The experimental group was divided into heterogeneous groups according to their different kinds of intelligence. The experimental group was taught using the Multiple Intelligences-Based Program, while the control group received conventional instruction. The experimental group and the control group were submitted to pre-testing and post-testing means of collecting data. The tools of the study included a Vocabulary Acquisition test, a Vocabulary Use test, a Reading Comprehension Skills test, a Motivation scale and a Multiple Intelligences (MI) inventory. Results of the study revealed the following:
there was a significant statistical difference (favoring the experimental group) between mean scores obtained by the experimental and the control groups on the post testing of the Vocabulary Acquisition, Vocabulary Use, Reading Comprehension Skills and Motivation. Results also revealed that the participants of the experimental group surpassed their counterparts in the control group on the post testing of the MI inventory. The study concluded that the MI program had a positive and high effect in Improving pupils’ Vocabulary Acquisition and Use, Reading Comprehension Skills, Motivation and Multiple Intelligences. Discussion of the findings, recommendations and suggestions for further research were presented.
