Abstract

Cesarean section (CS) is one of the oldest operations in surgery, and is the most important
obstetric operation. It is defined as the birth of a fetus through incision in the abdominal wall
(laparotomy) and the uterine wall (hysterotomy). This quasi experimental study was conducted
to determine the impact of nursing intervention for women undergoing cesarean section on the
occurrence of post operative complications: An evidence based approach. The study was done in
Port-Said city: Port Said general hospital, Port Fouad hospital and El-tadamon hospital. The
total subjects consisted of 250women. They were divided into two groups; 125 for each, the
study group who received postoperative care programs, and the control group who’ received
postoperative routine care of the hospital after CS. Data were collected through fours tools: The
first was a systematic review to develop nursing protocol for the care of women underwent CS.
TI,e second was structured interviewing schedule; the third was’ observation checklist to record
. postoperative physical care given to the mothers. The fourth tool was essential to record problems
encountered, during the first day, three days, and after two weeks after the operation. The present
study revealed that there was a significant improvement after the application of the program concerning
mobilization, fluid intake and breast feeding as well as less exposure to postoperative problems
compared to the control group. Based on the results of the study it was recommended that the
developed nursing intervention can be used as a basic teaching model for women undergoing CS.
