Abstract ackground: Short interpregnancy intervals (IPI) are commonly risk factor for adverse fects on maternal and neonatal outcome. The aim of this study was to explore the effects ’interpregnancy interval on maternal health during labor and immediate postpartum period as ~II as neonatal outcome at Belqas Hospital. A correlation design was adopted. The current udy was conducted on quota sample of 200 woman was recruited based on four deferent ’I «6m,6m-<12m,12m-<18m,18m-24m)each group consists of 50 woman. Four tools were .ed to collect data; Structure Interviewing Tool, delivery data, Postpartum Assessment record rd Neonatal Assessment record. The results of the present study revealed that, there was a atistically significance relation between SIPI and maternal and neonatal outcomes. Pregnant omen with short IPI was developed preterm labor, premature rupture of membrane, normal presentation (breech) (P<O.OOOI), prolonged and obstructed labor (P=0.0008, & =0.006) respectively, and tone of uterus (p=0.018), which caused postpartum hemorrhage mpared with others. Short IPI increased the baby risk to develop low birth weight, normal length, head and chest circumference, and had low scores in Ballard and Apgar ore. Conclusion: short IPI is associated with adverse effect on pregnancy outcome. And the itimal IPI which has no or less harms on maternal outcome. Recommendation, an vareness programs is needed to raise women knowledge regarding the adverse effects of ort interpregnancy intervals and to identify the appropriate interpregnancy interval. |
