Abstract

Today nursing has the opportunity to shape the future of health care. Nurses are creating partnerships with physicians and other health care professionals. Nursing is a stressful profession where the nursing students are facing complex problems with patients, colleagues and administration instructors and also the stressful environment. Therefore, nursing students need to be empowered with high self-concept and high self-esteem to deal in successful manner. Nursing students who feel good about themselves are confident, and demonstrate respect and concern for patients and colleagues. It has been suggested that the roots for building high self-esteem may lie in the educational process, during socialization in nursing education; the student acquires a concept of self as a nurse. Therefore, having a feeling of self-confidence and self-worth are the basic to develop leadership skills for nursing graduates. A positive self image and hence professional identity are the prerequisite for the nurses to have a strong relationship with patient; nurses can develop a more positive self-image through career advancement and advanced education in the advanced learning environment either physical or psychological environment.

The total score was divided into 3 levels as low, moderately low and high self-esteem.
Tool III: Nursing students’ educational environment questionnaire.
