Abstract

Current genetic, neurobiological, clinical-descriptive and pharmacological data about OCS and/or OCD in schizophrenia hypothesize that schizophrenia combined with OCD is more than a mere comorbidity. In view of the importance of such comorbidity in management and prognosis of schizophrenia, the present study was conducted to find out the prevalence and nature of OCs among hospitalized schizophrenic patients in Shebin El-Kom Mental Health Hospital, Menoufia. The higher-than-expected comorbidity rate for OCD and schizophre¬nia suggests a nonrandom association and possibly an integral relation between these 2 conditions. Also, there is no stable prevalence rate of OCS and OCD comorbid with schizophrenia across time, countries, different therapeutic communities and different psychometric tools.
