Abstract

Annual herb, stem hairy, pale green in colour, with decaying fishy smell, the stem length ranges from 15 – 20 (17.7) cm and width ranges from 0.4 – 0.6 (0.5) mm, circular outline. Leaves simple, 0.2 – 0.3 (0.53) cm in length, 0.15 – 0.25 (0.2) cm in width, densely hairy, have pale green colour, Broadly Ovate shape with acute apex and opposite alternate in arrangement.
II- Micromorphological characters (Figs. 68-82)
a- Stem Anatomy (Figs. 68-73) (LM)
The Stem in transverse section was circular in outline and enriched with multicellular hairs. The epidermis consisting of one layer of tangential shape cells which oriented along to the stem giving the stem straight shape. Collenchyma cells is present (angular type) in symmetric position and continued as one layered cells around the stem section below the epidermal layer. Palisade tissue and short cell chlorenchyma are absent. Lignified cortical parenchyma is absent, the cortex consists of four to six layers of irregularly shaped cellulosic paranchyma cells without any crystals. Secondary growth is anomalous as complete secondary bundles were found as a result of the abnormal activity and position of the cambium. The stem contains five primary vascular bundles have asymmetric arrangement and different sizes. Xylem parenchyma rays either uniserriste or biserriate are present. The pith consists of irregularly cellulosic parenchyma cells enriched with calcium oxalate crystals (druses). Diameter ratio of cortex to vascular bundles was 0.84, diameter ratio of vascular bundles to stem width was 0.23, the diameter ratio of pith to cortex was 1.18, the diameter ratio of epidermis to cortex which was 0.093 and the diameter ratio of cortex to stem width was 0.196.
