Abstract

The current thesis tries to formulate a new TQA of Hadiths’ translations. The proposed HTQA suggests three assessment stages as criteria for the evaluation of translations of Hadith. The first stage is the ST’s analysis which is derived from Peter Newmark’s criticism plan (1988). The second is the TT’s analysis stage which consists of the semantic, textual, pragmatic and stylistic assessment. The semantic level is extracted from Katherina Reiss’s intra-linguistic criteria (1971/2000). The textual assessment is based on M.A.K Halliday and Ruqayia Hasan’s (1976) cohesion model and M. Ann John’s concept of coherence (1986). The pragmatic assessment depends on Jamal Al Qiniai’s text pragmatic concept (2000). The stylistic assessment is derived from Nagwa El Zeini’s (1994) pragma-stylistic model. The last stage is the comparison between the TTs and the ST. Also, the acceptability of the translations is measured by two questionnaires.
