Abstract Salivary gland hypofunction has a bad impact in different oral tissues. It has different etiology such as systemic diseases(like Diabetes mellitus), medications, and therapeutic radiation. Many plants and herbs have antidiabetic action such as Aloe vera.. A. vera gel contain a lot of active constituents causing different biological activities such as: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunostimulant, and antimicrobial effects. Aim : The aim of the present study is to evaluate the biological effect of systemic administration of lyophilized Aloe vera on submandibular salivary glands of streptozontocin (STZ) induced diabetic albino rats. Conclusion : Diabetes mellitus cause histological and immunhistochemical changes in salivary glands’ cells. A.vera is a plant that has antidiabetic action and curative effect on submandibular salivary gland, so it is recommended to be used as adjunctive therapy with antidiabetic drugs. |
