Abstract Aim: To compare the anaesthetic effectiveness of epidural levobupivacaine and bupivacaine with addition of fentanyl in patients who were to have elective operations on the lower extremities. Materials and methods: This study was conducted on a total of 60 ASA I-II patients aged between 20 and 70 years, who underwent elective lower limb operations. The patients that received 0.5% bupivacaine plus fentanyl were assigned to group B (n = 30) and those that received 0.5% levobupivacaine plus fentanyl to group L (n = 30). Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the groups in terms of the onset time of the sensory block, onset and duration of motor block. Significant difference was found between the groups in terms of times of two segment regression, duration of sensory block and initial analgesic requirement time. Heart rate, mean arterial blood pressure, and peripheral oxygen saturation values (p value > 0.05). Conclusion: Levobupivacaine could be a good alternative to bupivacaine in patients administered epidural anaesthesia in elective lower extremity operations in terms of times of two segment regression, duration of sensory block and initial analgesic requirement. |
