Abstract

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a business management system that integrates all aspects found in the enterprise. However, integration becomes very critical when integrating essential business information stored in systems like ERP, Customer Relation Management (CRM) and Supply Chain Management (SCM) with other heterogeneous applications coexists inside or outside enterprise. In this case, integration can be considered costly and challenging problem. The main reason behind this issue is the heterogeneity of information contents and the semantics generated from various sources. This can be tackled by using semantic web technologies and techniques to achieve interoperability among software systems. In this thesis, a framework will be proposed to enhance ERP integration problems with other enterprise applications. The proposed framework targets to develop semantic oriented data models through introducing domain-specific semantic business logic layer. Ontology is used to standardize business processes, eliminates semantic conflicts of knowledge, and let knowledge be shared and exchanged. We use semantic annotation to provide integration between business process models which is represented by different modeling notations. A core reference ontology (CRO) is built to provide metadata mapping between the various business process modeling notations. Also, a domain ontology is constructed to be used in business process alignment. Ontologies include shared concepts about business process and data objects. A case study about complaint handling is implemented for the proposed framework. It is drown from different systems like the System Analysis and Program Development (SAP) referenced model and Oracle CRM. The case study includes different business scenarios using different modeling tools, namely, Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) and Event Process Chain (EPC).Various business processes do not have the same granularity but refer to the same concepts in the ontologies are aligned. Two types of alignment are investigated, namely horizontal alignment and vertical alignment. Horizontal alignment aims to identify correspondences between process models to allow business process be shared. Meanwhile, vertical alignment aims to verify compatibility between collaborative business processes to achieve integration. Semantic similarity functions are applied to business process models and domain ontology concepts to increase the degree of automation of business process semantic annotation. Profile consistency analysis is performed between two collaborative business process models having a different level of abstraction. The implementation of the proposed framework results in significant enhancement from 83.4% to 98% of the profile consistency between process models . Also, simulation results show significant improvement of precision and recall values which increase from 74% to 86%.
