Abstract

Background: Obesity has become one of the most important health issues in both developing and developed countries. Obesity, and in particular morbid obesity (defined as a body mass index [BMI] > 40 kg/m2), leads to high incidence of complications and decrease in life expectancy, especially among younger adults (Wang et al., 2003).
Aim of the Work : The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of Mini Gastric Bypass as a revisional procedure for morbid obese patients after failed VBG with its effect on weight loss and comorbidities with special emphasis on operative and post-operative outcome.
Methodology: These patients were enrolled in a combined prospective study (2 years ago) and had a retrospective gathered outcome analysis at Ain-Shams University Hospitals from February 2014 till June 2015 and followed up to June 2016.
Results: Our study was conducted in El-Demerdash hospital, Ain- Shams University and other private hospitals. Thirty patients were selected and operated upon from from February 2014 till June 2015 and followed up to June 2016. Out of 30 patients included in the current study, Male participants were 10 (33.0 %), while Female participants were 20 (67.0%).
Conclusion: Mini-gastric bypass offers major benefits with quite satisfactory results over most alternative procedures. Our data, which includes follow up of two years, indicates that mini gastric bypass is: An effective procedure for the treatment of failed restrictive procedure (VBG) .Technically feasible .Safe operation with a low rate of major postoperative complications. Considered a promising revisional bariatric procedure operation for patients with failed prior open or laparoscopic VBG, but was more difficult with a higher complication rate after open VBG.
