Abstract

“It is not as though nanotechnology will be an option; it is going to be essential forcoming up with sustainable technologies.” advises Paul Anastas,During the attempt of human evolution and construction has caused severe damage to theenvironment from the consumption of resources and increased pollution, Thus, thinking had beenstarted to reach a smart materials and technology to address environmental problems and thereduction of energy consumption and its impact on the surrounding environment to protect naturalresources for future generations.Sustainability, being the urgent issue of our time, is closely related with the innovations intechnology. Nanotechnology also is one of the new emerging technologies of our contemporarytimes as a good reflection of the global technological movement towards a better future it is anenabling technology that opens new possibilities in construction sustainability. On one hand, itcould lead to a better use of natural resources, obtaining a specific characteristic or property withminor material use. This theses aims to describe and explain the potential from nanotechnology for innovative solutionsin sustainable architecture and construction’s and give a research review of current and near futureapplications of nanotechnology (NT) for achieving high-performance and healthy buildings for afuture. The research is divided into three parts which review this issue as follows:1-Sustainability: The first part discusses Sustainability from the history of sustainability goalsand approaches of sustainability ,then the sustainable architecture , components ,buildings ,material, construction ,design and the performance criteria which measure sustainable architecture like(LEED- BREEAM –CASSBE … ) at the end of the chapter it will lecture view the new trends insustainable architecture such as BIM .2-NanoArchitecture: the second part explain Nano Architecture and show the possibilities ofNanoArchitecture as a new design trend which will affect architectural form and functions. It alsooffers more involving participation for material in early design stages as a result of bringing anew palette of materials which will influence the whole design process. Finally it investigatesmore capabilities of buildings performances and spatial configurations.3-Sustainable NanoArchitecture: This part explain the role of NanoArchitecture in achieving thegoals of sustainable architecture and increasing the efficiency of sustainable buildings and showhow NanoArchitecture has the ability to meet accepted environmental performance criteria likeLEED which offers a definable measure of sustainability and effects of global climate change.
