Abstract
Nutrition in critical illness is one of the most important but forgotten weapon in the intensive care unit and one of its components is trace elements. Trace elements are transition metals with the exception of selenium, which is technically a nonmetal element. They have an important role in multiple biological processes in the body like metabolism, enzymes structure and in the immunity.
