Abstract

A total of 80 camel and sheep milk samples were collected from Alwafrah, Abdali, Kabid and Sahara area in state of Kuwait (20 sample from each area, ten samples collected individually from camel and ten samples individually collected from sheep). Samples were taken from dromedary camels (one hump), and sheep at the period between April and September 2014. All samples were still valid for consumption were analyzed for measuring Arsenic ,lead, Aluminum, chromium and cadmium .levels. All samples were digested and then analyzed by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer Camel milk The results of atomic absorption spectrometry revealed that the levels of heavy metals in examined milk samples. Arsenic, the results indicated that Alwafra area have the highest mean concentration followed by Sahrawy area, Abdeli area and the low mean in the Kabd area. Means concentration exceed the permissible limit at all studied areas except Kabd area. Six samples exceed the permissible limit at Alwafra, also six samples exceed the permissible limit at Abdeli and Kabd areas, seven samples exceed the permissible limit at Sahrawy area. There are no significant difference between means of samples at four studied area. Aluminum, the results indicated that Kabd area have the highest mean concentration followed by Sahrawi Abdeli and the low mean concentration at Alwafra area. There are no any sample exceed the permissible limit. There are no significant differences between means of samples at four studied area. Sheep milk. Regarding to the results of heavy metals concentration in the sheep milk collected from different areas in Kuwait state, the results indicated that Arsenic concentration in four studied areas, Alwafrah area have high concentration followed by Kabid, Abdali then Sahrawi. Six (60%) samples exceed the permissible limit in the Alwafrah area, six (60%) of samples exceed the permissible limit in the Kabid area, eight (80%) of samples exceed the permissible limit in the Abdali area and five (50%) of samples exceed the permissible limit in the Sahrawi area. Two means of Alwafrah and Kabid exceed the permissible limit. There is no significant difference between means at different four studied areas. The public health and economic importance of the detected heavy metals, alongside the conclusion and suggested recommendations for ensuring the safety of camel and sheep milks were also reported.
