Abstract Physico chemical investigations, namely infrared absorption spectra and chemical durability of some selected lead borate glasses before and after being subjected to different doses of gamma-rays irradiation were carried out. All the glasses studied were melted in platinum 2% rhodium crucibles in an electrically heated furnace at (1000-1100°C) for four hours. The effect of introducing one of the monovalent and divalent metal oxides, cation for cation was investigated. The quantitative analysis obtained, by the infrared absorption spectra in the range of(4000-400) cm-1 were studied using the alkali halid disc technique. The chemical durability of some glasses were investigated usign hydrochloric acid solution as the immersion solution. Different factors were studied such as the glass composition, concentration of the immersion solution and condition of the immersion process. ’ The effect of different doses of gamma irradiation on all the glasses studied has been also investigated. |
