Abstract
We investigated the relation between IR and CTS in 93 subjects recruited from Mansoura. Specialized Medical Hospital outpatient diabetes and obesity clinics (37 patients with T2DM, 46 obese non diabetic and 10 age and sex matched healthy control). Our data reinforce the linkage between CTS and IR in patients with T2DM and obesity. IR may be one of the underlying mechanism responsible for the development and severity of CTS and CTS may be used as a predictor of IR. In obese non diabetics; CTS, IR in combination with fasting hyperinsulinemia may have a predictive value for future development of T2DM. We suggest that it will be useful to add idiopathic CTS as a component of metabolic syndrome.
