Abstract

This work aims at prediction temerature disrtibution, distortion, and residual sress induced in butt-welded thin plates due to arc welding process (TIG intert gas welding). the plate’s material is a nickel base super alooy (INCONEL 718) which is widely used in high accuracy industries. in particular, it is used in high temperature applications such as gas turbine and reactor steam generators.
sequential thermo-mechanical analyses were found to be capable of calculating the growth of stresses and deformations that occur due to welding process.
a sequential thermo-mechanical analysis is ywo analysis is a trasient (i.e time dependent) analysis with moving heat source model. the thermal analysis is carried out to determine the temperature history for each node in FE mesh. gaussian heat source model is established to simulate trasient thermal analysis is carried out, using the temperatures, which are read as predefined field from the thermal analysis, as an input thermal load, to predict distortions and residual stresses.
