Abstract

Infectious bronchitis virus is one of the incriminated etiological agents in both respiratory and renal disease problems affecting broiler chickens all over the world. In recent years more debate was established about the exact share of this virus in the economic losses in poultry industry in Egypt. This argument initiated us to point on the IB virus infection among three large Governorates; Sharkia, Dakahlia and Gharbia.
Forty four broiler chicken flocks (19-54days) of age were investigated during 2014-2015. The results revealed depression, off food, marked reduction in feed consumption, huddling together under heat source and ruffled feathers associated with respiratory troubles including (sneezing, coughing, rales, gasping and nasal discharges) which observed in all flocks. Head edema and swollen sinuses were observed in 4 flocks. On the other hand, cyanosis of comb and wattles was present in 5 flocks. Whitish and greenish diarrhea was observed in 18 and 13 flocks respectively. Mortality rates ranged from (0.5-30%).
The gross lesions exposed tracheitis, bronchitis and congestion of lungs in all flocks, caseated plugs at tracheal bifurcation in 28 flocks and, fibrinous pericarditis, perihepatitis, air sacculitis in 19 flocks. Kidney damage in the form of nepherosis-nephritis was recorded in 22 flocks. General congestion was also seen in 21 flocks with hemorrhages on Proventriculus in 9 flocks and cecal tonsils in 4 flocks.
