Abstract Neonatal sepsis is common in the neonatal intensive care units and leads to significant morbidity and mortality. Myocardial dysfunction frequently accompanies severe sepsis and septic shock. Cardiac dysfunction in sepsis is characterized by decreased contractility, impaired ventricular response to fluid therapy, and in some patient’s ventricular dilatation. Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) has emerged as one of the most powerful prognosticators for cardiovascular disease (CVD) within the realm of non-invasive cardiac imaging. |
