Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of platelet derived growth factor-AA and vascular endothelial growth factor in both platelet rich plasma and platelet rich fibrin in type II diabetic chronic periodontitis patients before and after conventional non-surgical periodontal therapy using Luminex x-MAP technology. PDGF-AA and VEGF can be considered as inflammatory markers when they are found at high levels at the sites of inflammation and their presence indicate the inflammatory conditions, also they were found in increased levels with the presence of diabetes mellitus. Their levels were found to be reduced with the conventional non-surgical periodontal treatment with the reduction of inflammatory stage as they were found to play a role in the healing process when they are found in little concentrations. Therefore, these growth factors can play double roles according to their concentrations as they may play a role in inflammation when they are present in high concentrations and also they may play a role in the healing process when they are available in little concentrations. Finally as general the levels of these growth factors were found to be higher in the PRF than their levels in the PRP.
