Abstract

The present study was conducted on 30 consecutive patients with some rheumatologic diseases divided into 2 groups JIA (5 males &10 females) & PSLE (2 males & 13 females) aging less than 16 years old and 30 of apparently healthy children (14 males and 16 females) as controls.
All children included in the study were subjected to the following:
1. Careful history taking and clinical examination.
2. Laboratory investigations included:
• Complete Blood Count (CBC).
• Erythrocyte Sedimentation rate (ESR)
• Kidney function tests (urea& creatinine)
• Liver enzymes (ALT& AST)
• Lipid profile : (cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDL).
• CRP, 24 hour Proteinuria, RF, ANA and Anti ds-DNA were collected from patients files.
The current study revealed the following results:
Lymphocyte percentage in group 1 was significantly high compared to controls (p< 0.01), HB and TLC in group 2 were significantly low compared to controls (p<0.01) and TLC (p< 0.05) respectively.
Renal function (BUN & S.Cr) in group 2 were significantly high compared to controls in (p<0.01).
ALT in group 1 was significantly high compared to controls (p< 0.05).
ESR (1st hour, 2nd hour) in group 1 and group 2 were significantly higher than ESR in controls (p<0.01)
CRP in group 1 and group 2 were significantly higher than CRP in controls (p<0.05).
RF was observed positive in group1 and group 2 (4 patients (26.7%), 4 patients (26.7%)) respectively and negative in group1 and group 2 (13 patients (73.3%), 1 patients (73.3%)) respectively.
ANA was observed positive in group1 and group 2 (2 patients (13.3%) ,14 patients (93.3%)) respectively and negative in group1 and group 2 (11 patients (86.7%), 1 patients (7.6%)) respectively.
Anti-dsDNA Ab in group 2 was observed positive in 14 patients (93.3%) and negative in 1 patient (6.7%).
TC, TG, and LDL in group 2 were significantly high compared to controls and group 1 (p<0.01) but HDL in group 2 was significantly low compared to controls (p<0.01).
As regard Disease Activity Index( DAI) according to DAS 28 score interpretation in group 1 ranged between 1-5.2 with a mean of 2.45 ± 1.08 . Remission was observed in 9 patients (60%), Low disease activity in 2 patients (13.3%), Moderate disease activity in 3 patients (20%) and High disease activity in 1 patient (6.7%).
As regard Disease Activity Index( DAI) in group 2, SLE-DAI ranged between 6-45 with a mean of 17.2 ± 10.3. Mild disease activity was observed in 4 patients (26.7%), Moderate disease activity in 8 patients (53.3%), Sever disease activity in 2 patients (13.3%) and Very sever disease activity in 1 patient (6.7%).
