Abstract

Schiff bases are those compound containing the azomethine group (-HC=N-) and are usually formed by condensation of primary amine with an active carbonyl compound. Bases which are effective as coordinating ligands bear a functional group, usually –OH, sufficiently near the site of condensation so that a five or six membered chelate ring can be formed upon reaction with a metal ion. Schiff s base play an important role in inorganic chemistry as the easily form stable complexes with most of the metal ions.
The thesis includes four main chapters:
Chapter I: Introduction
This chapter contains the importance and structural chemistry of Schiff and their different complexes .The transition metal chelates of Schiff base and their application.
Chapter II: Experimental
This chapter involves the preparation of Schiff base and their metal complexes. All compound the basis of element have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR and H NMR spectra as well as thermal analysis.
Chapter III: Structure investigation of Novel hydrazones Schiff s bases by spectroscopic, thermal and molecular orbital calculations and their biological activities.
Novel Schiff s bases AI (2(1-hydrazonoethyl) phenol), AII (2. 4-dibromo 6-(hydrazonomethyl ) phenol) and AIII (2(hydrazonomethyl)phenol)were prepared as new hydrazine compound via condensation reaction with molar ratio (1:1) of reactants.
Chapter IV: Synthesis and characterization of novel hydrazine Schiff s base complexes using spectroscopic and thermal analyses and their biological activities
The complexing behavior of benzohydrazone asCHIFF S base H2L of IUPAC name AI (2(1- hydrazonoethl)phenol) towards the transition metal ions namely Mn ( II), Fe(III), Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II), Zn (II) , Hg (II), Ce (IV) and UO2 (II) have been examined by elemental analyses, magnetic measurements of some of them,
