Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy in the assessment of coronary artery bypass grafts using 64-slice computed tomography (CT) technology.
CT coronary angiography was performed for 89 bypasses in 40 patients with suspected coronary artery bypass disease using a Philips 64-slice CT-scanner. Patients with an irregular or fast heart rate despite b-blocker administration were excluded from the study. All bypass grafts and the distal bypass anastomosis could be visualized by CT, non-evaluable distal arterial anastomosis were either due to clip material or calcification artifacts. 35 bypass graft occlusions and 64 bypass grafts are patent resulted in a sensitivity of 90%.
The 64-detector row CT scanner technology allows for a reliable differentiation between patent and occluded coronary artery bypass grafts and an accurate detection of graft stenosis. The high sensitivity and the Excellency of this technology can be used in clinical routine as a noninvasive test for patients with suspected graft dysfunction.
