Abstract

The water suspens·ion of the dry powder of the aerial parts of Cornu/aca monocantha (Family Chenopodiaceae) and Tribulus terrestris (Family Zygophyllaceae) exhibited high molluscicidal activities against Biomphalaria alexandrine snails, the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni in Egypt
(LC90 = 200 and 230 ppm) after 24 hours exposure
respectively.
Molluscicidal screening of some organic extracts such as methanol, petroleum ether, chloroform, acetone, benzene and ethyl acetate of the aerial parts of each plant revealed that the methanol extract of the two plants had high potency than other extracts.
The molluscicidal activity of the methanol extract of each plant showed a small change when this extract was exposed to some environmental conditions such as water temperatures, water pH values, . sun radiation and concentration of mud in the water.
The lipid content of C. monocantha and
T. terrestris was detected through GLC analysis...
