Abstract

This study aimed to compare the PD and FLAIR sequences in the detection of MS lesions. It was conducted upon twenty patients with remitting relapse multiple sclerosis.
All the patients were subjected to full history taking and thorough clinical examination. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed on 1.5 T MR System using a standard head coil. Imaging included conventional MRI and added proton density sequence in axial sections.
The MS lesions were identified on the FLAIR and PD sequences and classified according to their anatomic location into: infra-tentorial and supra-tentorial lesions (including: periventricular, DWM, juxta-cortical andcortical lesions).
• The findings of our study were:
PD sequence revealed more infratentorial MS lesions compared to FLAIR.
PD sequence revealed more periventricular MS lesions compared to FLAIR.
PD is not superior to FLAIR sequence in detecting deep white matter, juxta-cortical and cortical MS lesions.
