Abstract Septal deformities represent a major cause of aesthetic disorders and respiratory obstruction a severely deformed septum is caused mostly by trauma, previous surgery or is seen in patients with malformations such as cleft lip and palate. Even today, the difficult septum presents a surgical problem. A complete understanding of the three dimensional pathology, nasal anatomy, and physiology as well as accurate preoperative analysis, is a prerequisite to achieve both a functionally and aesthetically good result. With the evolution of modern rhinoplasty, many pioneer surgeons recognized that septal surgery played a pivotal role in the management of the deviated nose and hence combined septal and corrective rhinoplasty in one procedure, and therefore septoplasty is currently considered an essential element to achieve adequate functional and aesthetic results in patients undergoing rhinoplasty. |
