Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma is an important cause of death worldwide. In addition, it ranks the fifth most common cause of cancer death, which kills more than 650,000 person around the world each year. In Egypt, liver cancer forms 11.75% of the malignancies of all digestive organs and 1.6% of total malignancies. Other factors associated with an increased risk of HCC include pollution, aflatoxin, use of in pesticides, schistosomiasis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease which is strongly associated with disease of affluence such as obesity, DM2.there are different mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of HCC; cell cycle regulators, tumor suppressor genes, oncogenic growth factors and their receptors, apoptosis, angiogenesis and immune system. There are multiple regulatory pathways dysregulated in HCC; for example : TGF-B signaling pathway, Wnt/B-catenin signaling pathway, IGF signaling pathway and HGF signaling pathway and others.vitamin D used as a molecular marker to predict the risk and to e valuate the disease severity of HCC in patients with chronic hepatitis HCV. |
