Abstract This study aimed to investigate the effect of using project-based learning in enhancing EFL speaking skills among preparatory school pupils. The study adopted the quasi-experimental pre- and post-test design. A group of third year preparatory school pupils were randomly selected from Mostafa Kamel preparatory school for boys and girls in El-Shouhada directorate, in the academic year 2014-2015 (38 pupils in the experimental group and 38 pupils in the control group). The experimental group received training through project-based learning; while the control group received regular instruction. The instruments included an EFL speaking test with a rubric for assessing the participants’ EFL speaking skills. The test and the rubric were administered to the participants of the study before implementing project-based learning in order to measure their level in EFL speaking skills. Then, the test was re- administered after the implementation of project-based learning. Results of the present study revealed that experimental group’s EFL speaking skills were enhanced after the implementation of project-based learning. Accordingly, project-based learning has an effect on enhancing EFL speaking skills. |
