Abstract Keratoconus is a degenerative disease of the cornea causing progressive thinning with change of the curvature. The most acceptable etiology of keratoconus includes biochemical and physical corneal tissue changes, however still no full theory explains all findings of keratoconus. Recent computerized optical topography is the main stay of diagnosis which has been able to diagnose even sub clinical cases. Treatment of keratoconus with collagen cross linking aims to slow down even arresting the progressive course of the disease and treats the underlying pathophysiology thus stabilizing the cornea keeping the disease one step away from keratoplasty, other treatments aim at improving the refractive outcome of the patient at the moment. |
