Abstract The objectives of this work was study iron status and factors affecting its availabliity in representative soils collected from the saltanat of oman . An incubation experiment was conducted to study the effect of CaC03 content , addition of 2.5% organic matter, forms of Fe applications as Fe So4- 7 HzO or Fe- EDDHA (20 ppm), 80 ppm of sulphur and the time of incubation on the availability of Fe and other chemical properties of collected two soils (Soil No.I had coarse texure and highly calcareous, Soil No.2 had sandy loam and relatively low CaC0 3 content). Also, a greenhouse experiment was carried out to study the effect of CaC03 , addition of 2% organic matter , and 20 ppm of Fe as Fe- EDDHA to the soil or 30 ppm of Fe as Fe- EDDHA foliar application on the availability of N, P, K, Fe, Mn and Zn in soil and plants, dry weight, contents and uptake of these elements by com plants grown under different treatments . A factorial experiment design was used in the two experiments . The data were analyzed statistically by analysis of variance and by multiple range test . The significant obtained results can be summarized in the following points : 1 . The mean soil pH values were 8.27 and 9.15 for the sand and sandy loam soil. respectively . It was decreased in average to 7.88 and 8.47 for sand and sandy loam soil, respectively with the time of incubation. Organic matter, sulphur and Fe-application had no effect on the soil pH . 2 . The organic matter were 0.21% and 1.19% for sand and sandy loam soil, respectively. It increased with organic matter application to 0.9% and 2.5% for sand and sandy loam soil after 2 incubation months , and decreased with 6 months of incubation to 0.7% and 1.5% for the two soil samples, |
