Abstract

Objectives: Left ventricular end diastolic pressure as predictor of mortality in patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy using the early diastolic transmitral velocity/early mitral annular diastolic velocity ratio (E/E`). Methods: Between 1 August 2010 and 1 August 2015, 380 consecutive patients were referred to our echocardiographic laboratories for risk stratification. They were examined in a single centre (Yacoub Research Unite, Menoufiya University, Egypt and as a part of the BA-HCM National Program). 243 HCM patients originating from 142 families [51 families comprise 152 positive phenotype (63%) and 91 sporadic] completed follow up ≥ 12 months and included in the study. Results: Of the 35 variables subjected to univariate analysis, 8 demonstrated a significant association with mortality. Stepwise multivariate logistic regression identified LVEDP as an independent predictor of mortality in HCM. Conclusions: E/E` was independently associated with adverse outcomes in patients with HCM. Therefore, E/E` as a simple bedside test provides additional prognostic information in patients with HCM.
