Abstract In the present work, a computer program named MIXSIM has been used for investigating the factors affecting the mixing characteristic for the non-Newtonian fluids. These factors are impeller speed of rotation, impeller diameter with respect to tank diameter, n factor, k factor and two impeller types. The results indicate that the effect of n on the apparent viscosity is acting more than the effect of k. Also it is found that the mixing index is directly proportional to the increase of D/T ratio, while the shape of apparent viscosity propagation maximum concentration is shifted towards the impeller location. Apparent viscosity concentration distribution homogenously is directly proportional to the increase of impeller speed. With regards to impeller type, the study indicates that pitched blade impeller type is the best for D/T ratios 0.42, 0.5 and 0.6. The helical ribbon is the best for D/T ratio 0.33 and all speeds of rotation less than 300 rpm. |
