Abstract Two field experiments were carried out at the Agricultural Research and Experimental Center of the Faculty of Agriculture, Moshtohor, Kalubia Governorate, Benha University and two field experiments were carried out at rice Research and Training Center (RRTC) farm, Sakha, Kafr El-Sheikh, Egypt in the two successive seasons 2011 and 2012 to study the performance of new five genotypes of rice under three irrigation intervals on growth characters, yield, yield components and chemical contents. Factors under study were as follows: - Five varieties, i.e. 1- Sakha 106 2- Sakha 105 3- GZ 9362 4- GZ 9057 5- GZ 7576 -Irrigation intervals, i.e. 1- 3 days 2- 6 days 3- 9 days - characters studied:- - Growth characters: 1- Plant height (cm). 2- Root length (cm). 3- Number of tillers hill-1. 4- Number of panicle hill-1. 5- Number of tiller m-2. 6- Leaf area index ( LAI). 7- Number of days from sowing to panicle initiation. 8- Number of days from sowing to maximum tillering. 9- Number of days from sowing to 50 % heading. - Yield and its components: 1- Panicle length (cm). 2- Number of grains panicle-1. 3- Number of panicles m-2. 4- 1000 grains weight (g). 5- Biological yield (t fed-1). 6- Grain yield (t fed-1). 7- Straw yield (t fed-1). Chemical analyses 1- Total chlorophyll. 2- N% in white rice grains. 3- N% in brown rice grains. 4- Protein% in white rice grains. 5- Protein% in brown rice grains. 6- Protein yield (kg fed-1) Results could be summarized as follows: -Effect of irrigation intervals: Irrigation every 3 days treatment significantly affected all growth characters namely, plant height, root length, number of tillers hill-1, number of panicle hill-1, number of tiller m-2, Leaf area index, number of days from sowing to panicle initiation, number of days from sowing to maximum tillering and number of days from sowing to 50 % heading flowed by irrigation every 6 days treatment without significant difference of most traits in the first and second seasons at Moshtohor and Kafrelsheikh locations as well as combined over two locations. On the other hand, irrigation every 9 days treatment significantly increased all growth characters in the first and second seasons at Moshtohor and Kafrelsheikh locations as well as combined over two locations. |
