Abstract

Toxoplasma gondii is one of the most common parasitic infections worldwide. Still in most of the cases, the disease goes into a quiescent stage sometimes associated with psychiatric disorders as schizophrenia. Recently, some researches tried to raise a query if there is a relation between toxoplasmosis and neurological diseases. Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disease characterized by low brain dopamine level and high blood cortisol level, while Toxoplasma gondii infection was reported in some researches to increase both dopamine and cortisol levels, this triggers a question is there a relation between Toxoplasma gondii infection and Parkinson’s disease, which may be linked to cortisol blood level?
