Abstract Dyslipidemia is highly prevalent in patients on MHD, with predominance of the atherogenic triad, i.e. hypertriglyceridemia, elevated VLDL and reduced HDL. The risk factors for coronary heart disease in the general population remain predictive of CHD among patients with CKD as well. Magnesium is the second most abundant intracellular cation and the fourth most abundant cation in the human body. Magnesium exerts a large variety of biological functions, including as a cofactor for a variety of enzymes of the phosphorylation of proteins and nucleic acids. Lower serum magnesium levels were reported to be related to coronary artery disease in adults and to neurological events in patients with peripheral arterial disease. |
