Abstract The housing problem occupies a leading position in the list of social and economic priorities in many countries. Thus, there is an urgent need for alternative systems to fulfill the rapid expansion of the housing construction demand in terms of quality, strength properties and environmental aspects. Al-Tuhami (2013) presents a method and technique for enhancing the mechanical properties of prestressed Hollow Core Slabs. The suggested technique was based on comprised of longitudinal, transverse ribs and lower thin slab layer. The spaces between the ribs and the lower concrete layer are filled with polystyrene foam blocks. re due to different Experimental work and theoretical formulation have been carried out to study the flexural and shear behavior of hollow core slabs and modified hollow core slabs, and to study the effect of the presence of shear reinforcements on enhancing the structural behavior of the Hollow Core Slab. The main aim of the experimental study presented in this thesis for examing the effect of the presence of traditional reinforcements including longitudinal reinforcements and stirrups in addition to prestressed wires on the behavior and shear capacity of the precast slab specimens. |
