Abstract This work was devoted in three separate sets to investigate the possible protective effects firstly of the antioxidants curcumin (20 mg/kg/day, i.p. for seven days) and luteolin (5 mg/kg/day, i.p. for seven days) on cisplatin (single dose 7.5 mg/kg i.p. given at the third day) induced nephrotoxicity; secondly, of the antihypertensive drugs captopril (100 mg/kg/day, p.o. for seven days) and telmisartan (10 mg/kg p.o. for seven days) on methotrexate (single dose 20 mg/kg i.p. given at the fifth day) induced hepatotoxicity; and thirdly, of the antidiabetic drugs metformin (250 mg/kg/day, p.o. for seven days) and sitagliptin (10 mg/kg/day, p.o. for seven days) on doxorubicin (single dose 15 mg/kg i.p. given at the fifth day) induced cardiotoxicity in rats. The results showed a significant protective effect of the prior administration of the investigated drugs before induction of toxicity by the antineoplastic drugs. |
