Abstract The present study aimed to identify the relationship between nurse teachers’ empowerment and their organizational commitment through assessing the level of work empowerment among nurse teachers determining level of organizational commitment, and investigating the relationship between empowerment and organizational commitment among nurse teachers. This study was carried out at all the secondary technical nursing schools at Elfayoum Governorate. Fifty nurse teachers were included in the study. Data collection tools included Condition of work Empowerment Questionnaire and Organizational Commitment Scale About two thirds of the studied nurse teachers were not empowered by access to information. Half of study subjects were empowered by all items related to access of support. More than one half of the study subjects were not empowered by access of opportunities. The majority of the study subjects were not empowered by access of resources. Half of study subjects were committed by affective domain. Nearly two thirds of studied nurse teachers were committed with continuous domain items. The majority of the study subjects were not committed to normative domain items. There was a significant positive correlation between empowerment sources and a dimension of organizational commitment. So the study recommended that: Increase access to information about the organizational system to nurse teachers and keep nourishing them with updating knowledge. Increase nurse teachers’ access to opportunities which allows them to develop new professional knowledge and skills and to actualize their potential. Nurse Teachers should share in different committees in their work setting to form new relationship, learn new skills, and gain recognition by having the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. |
