Abstract

Grid systems - A collection of distributed heterogeneous resources that are coupled together by computer networks - enabled the emergence of diverse types of innovative applications that has, in many cases, high-performance orientation. These applications use high speed networks to integrate supercomputers, large databases, archival storage devices, scientific instruments, and visualization devices to form a networked virtual supercomputer. However, achieving high performance in a grid system requires effective resource scheduling. The heterogeneous and dynamic nature of the grid, as well as the differing demands of applications running on the grid, makes grid scheduling complicated. In this paper, some concepts of grid computing and scheduling are reviewed and a scheduling model for the grid environments based on task graph partitioning of applications that could be introduced to the grid is proposed.
